20160130 KFN Winterfest
Members of the Kawartha Field Naturalists (KFN) gathered at a rural property near Fenelon Falls to participate in winter activities which included tracking. Among the many birds at feeders, the highlite was a large flock of Snow Buntings. Species identified by tracks and/or sign included: Snowshow Hare, American Mink, Ermine, Red Squirrel, Eastern Gray Squirrel, Long-tailed Weasel, Shrew sp, Coyote, White-tailed Deer and Ruffed Grouse. A horse skull was discovered on the field. It had been dragged there by Coyotes from another farm. Bird nests seen included a large raptor nest and a small nest in a shrub, likely made by American Goldfinch or Yellow Warbler.
