20160326 Wildlife Tracks
There was a brief opportunity for track observation and photography during the morning of Saturday March 26. The weather that led to these ideal conditions started with a winter storm on March 24 that left a layer of icy snow. This was followed by a brief snowfall, just enough to cover the ice. Because the ice was darker than the snow, wildlife tracks showed greater contrast. But the ideal conditions did not last long as milder temperatures on Saturday afternoon melted the snow and much of the ice. Wildlife tracks that were photographed include: Eastern Chipmunk, Red Squirrel, Eastern Gray Squirrel, Canada Goose, Ring-billed Gull and American Crow. Other observations include the remains of a Virile Crayfish eaten by a Ring-billed Gull and a tree cavity created by a Pileated Woodpecker.
