20160522 Loon On Nest
A Common Loon was photographed on the nest located among cattails along the lakeshore. The nesting period will be easy to observe since the nest is clearly visible from the road when the Loon can often be seen with neck and head upright. While I photographed from a canoe, the Loon adopted a stealth profile by laying its neck and head flat; it was more difficult to see from a distance. But through the zoom lens of my camera, the beautiful black and white checkered back and neck collar are clearly visible. The Loon was first observed May 17th on the nest.
