20161013 Brook Trout
The first three photos are dated October 13th and show fresh Brook Trout redds. They can be identified as slight depressions in the stream bed where the gravel has been disturbed and looks cleaner than surrounding gravel. Brook Trout build these redds to protect their eggs released during spawning. Just prior to the photo capture, two adult Brook Trout were seen on or near the redds with a positive ID of a 7" male. There was no evidence of redds at this location on October 11th, so they were created some time between the 12th and 13th.
The remaining photos show a Brook Trout male, another redd and some Brook Trout Fry observed on October 15th.
(Photographed October 13 & 15, 2016 at Harper Creek, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada)
