20170112 Winter Robins
The winter of 2016-2017 will long be remembered as the winter of the American Robins. These photographs show a few from a flock of 100 that frequented the area for a couple of days. Mild conditions had exposed some grassy areas which attracted the Robins. Typically the Robins had been feeding on an abundant crop of Wild Grapes. Recent Christmas Bird Counts in Southern Ontario have documented record numbers of American Robins. The previous record high for the Peterborough Field Naturaluist CBC was 759. The new record is 1,943 American Robins!
