20170610 Spawning Largemouth Bass
After observing a pair of Largemouth Bass on their nest June 9th, here the male is seen taking care of the eggs. It does so by fanning its fins and repositioning its body over the nest. The regular movement creates a current over the eggs which helps with oxygenation. The male also defended the nest against all intruders. The female could be seen on June 10th making accasional visits to the nest but the male would gently discourage it from hanging around. In subsequent days, the female disappeared while the male remained to care for the eggs.
