20180602 Crow & Juvenile Robin
American Crow photographed while it was killing and removing feathers from an American Robin juvenile. Initially the juvenile bird was still alive and attempting to escape, but after repeated jabs from the Crow the Robin lay still. There was a large mob of defending birds which included American Robin, Common Grackle and Red-winged Blackbird, all of them taking turns flying toward the predator Crow. The noise from these birds and their alarm calls was loud enough to be heard from inside our house. A second Crow was stationed nearby and appeared to be keeping watch for the predator Crow. After the juvenile Robin was plucked of most feathers, the Crows flew away with it, likely on their way to feed their family of juvenile Crows.
