Val Deziel, Coordinator, Conservation Biology, Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) - Rice Lake Plains, led 14 people on the President's Walk outing for Willow Beach Field Naturalists through the Hazel Bird Nature Reserve on Sunday morning. Val explained the extensive work that is being done to protect and conserve this significant prairie remnant of southern Ontario. This includes the removal of invasive species, most significantly Scotch Pine, and the practice of controlled burns and the planting of native grasses which in turn support many native birds and insects.(by Frank Godfrey)
