20200629 Mervin Line
While searching for butterflies along Mervin Line it was birds that were prominent. A family of Killdeers, two adults and 3 juveniles, were poking around in the remnants of damp mud of a road ditch that had dried up from the drought. Two other bird families were found in close proximity with some conflict between the two. My first ever Blue-gray Gnatcatcher was one of a family with adults feeding the juveniles. These small feisty birds would dive-bomb the adult Red-bellied Woodpeckers that were only doing their job at their own nest as they fed one juvenile. So while there were a few butterflies, it was the birds that stole the show!
