20220120 Cooper's Hawk
Great drama unfolded at the bird feeders where a group of feeding Mourning Doves enticed a Cooper's Hawk. The Hawk caught the Dove mid-air and then landed on the snow to make sure the Dove was immobilized. Death was quick. After a minute, the Cooper's Hawk talons were realigned for better grip and then the Hawk flew away. After that, I moved outside the house and photographed the kill site. Normally I would have to guess at the predator from evidence at the scene, but in this case the predator was caught in the act.
